Archive for the “Concern” Category

This is the call for every Filipino in the Philippines and everybody who read this blog article. This will be an eye opener to those people who live in the Northern Philippines. A call for environmental protection.

Illegal logging a major factor in flood devastation of Philippines.

We are in the region that usually hit by typhoons. Most of the time, we are flooded due to huge scale of illegal logging activities in the of Province Isabela.

Today, we’ll see more of these drastic floods if we don’t make any move to stop this “illegal logging”.

We must, stand and call for environmental protection!

Decades of illegal logging, unusually high rainfall and geography have all contributed to the devastation wrought by storms that have lashed the Philippines, the government and environmentalists say.

Geography has played its part too. The Philippine archipelago of some 7,000 islands sits astride Southeast Asia’s typhoon belt and is usually the first country to be hit by typhoons from the Pacific Ocean.

Illegal logging was the main cause, of this flash floods.

The series of landslides and flashfloods that hit several parts of the country should serve as a wake up call for us to join hands and stand in preserving our environment.

Do you have concern for the environment?

Definition of concern – something that interests you because it is important or affects you; a feeling of sympathy for someone or something; a matter that relates to or affects one.

The continued destruction of Sierra Madre, will certainly affect lives of the peoples in the valley, their crops and farms will be always destroyed, more people will experience hunger and death.

Try to count the trees…

Where have all the trees gone…?

Do you care?

Cagayan made a big fight against illegal logging!

Illegal logging in Cagayan down by 90%, says environment officer!

TUGUEGARAO, Philippines – If a community environment officer in the northern province of Cagayan is to be believed, the snippets of good news coming from the anti-illegal logging front breathes a fresh air of hope to people fighting for the preservation of the country’s few remaining lush forest cover.A report from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) of Sanchez Mira town have shown that incidences of timber poaching seemed to have slowed down as evidenced by the slump in recorded arrests by the local police.Vicente Bayucan, Cenro head of Sanchez Mira, said the downtrend in the apprehension of trucks loaded with suspected illegally cut logs plying the northern parts of the province has fallen to about 90 percent.

In a radio interview, Bayucan stated that to date, joint efforts by the police and the illegal logging task force in their area have bagged only about 1,000 board feet compared to the nearly 10,000 board feet of poached lumber apprehended in December of last year.

“The help of concerned citizens, local officials and the vigilance of the anti-illegal logging task force have helped a lot in our campaign against the proliferation of timber poaching,” said Bayucan, adding that most of the apprehended trucks loaded with contraband came from neighboring Apayao province, passing through the town of Pamplona.
